Continuing On...

So with everything happening, I was still able to keep hanging out with my friends and take care of my mom. One day, I remember certain things but not everything clearly. I was invited to a sleepover with a couple of friends and they were coming to pick me up but I wanted to eat something. I hurried up and ate some Spaghettio's with franks and downed a can of Mountain Dew. My brother and his friend were playing with a football out front and the PT cruiser was coming down the driveway bumping music. My mom and brother hollered to have a good time, I jumped in the car, and we took off. One of my friends was driving and the other one was putting make up on in the passenger seat. I was in the back and we were all just singing to the music.

The last song that I remember hearing was Black and Yellow by Wiz Khalifa (turns out later that Love Story by Taylor Swift was playing at the time . I wasn't feeling right and I told my friends that I didn't feel good, and then I remember feeling my head tilt to the left and flashing lights behind my eyelids and then I don't remember anything until I woke up in an ambulance. I was filled in later that my friends thought I was messing with them because I was making some kind of sound and then when they realized that I wasn't, they pulled over and tried to help and call 911. Thankfully there was a nurse in the car behind us and she was able to help them and me. I don't know who she was and I guess I never will but she was my saving grace that day.

Apparently from the time I went out to the time I got in the ambulance, there was time enough for my mom and brother to get to where we were and mom to call my dad at work and for him to get there. Guessing with how far he worked, it was probably a good 10 to 15 minutes. When I came out of it, I was laying on a gurney and the ambulance doors were closing. I couldn't remember hardly anything and I thought we were at the end of my driveway. It even took me a minute to remember my own name. At the hospital, I got sick and I was so tired that I could barely keep my eyes open. At that time, they told me it was just something that happened to teenagers.

It wasn't until later when I had another episode 6 years later on a fair ride that I was officially diagnosed with Epilepsy and a treatment was started. There were many failed attempts and many more seizures until I was finally able to be on a medication that would help me 99% of the time. I was told by several doctors that I will never be 100% seizure free. To date from 4/17/2009 to today 5/20/2024, I have had a total of 13 seizures.

I have grown accustomed to it and can tell when I am on the brink of one, and most everyone around me knows how to handle it if I go into one.

But that was not the end of things we would have to overcome.
